Description

A mission-driven organization is seeking a skilled and experienced Controller to lead its accounting, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This role is critical to maintaining the integrity of financial systems, supporting audits, managing internal controls, and providing strategic financial leadership. The Controller will work closely with senior leadership, program managers, auditors, and external partners to ensure responsible financial stewardship and support the organization’s long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger.

Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP for non-profit organizations.

Monitor cash flow, develop forecasts, and ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.

Maintain comprehensive reporting for grants, contracts, and restricted/unrestricted funds.

Develop and manage budgets, financial forecasts, and models to support strategic initiatives.

Compliance & Audit

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including IRS and charitable reporting requirements.

Lead the annual financial audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.

Oversee grant and contract compliance, including documentation of allowable costs and reporting requirements.

Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

Leadership & Strategy

Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and performance excellence.

Partner with leadership to provide financial insights that inform strategic planning and decision-making.

Support presentations to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and other stakeholders.

Collaborate with development and fundraising teams to provide financial data for grant proposals, donor reporting, and funding renewals.

Systems & Process Improvement

Manage financial systems and software, ensuring optimal use and functionality.

Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes for efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

Implement best practices in non-profit accounting, reporting, and financial management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline. CPA preferred.

7+ Years of Progressive Accounting Experience

3+ Years in a Leadership/Management Role

Non-Profit Accounting Experience, including Strong Fund Accounting Knowledge & Grant Compliance

Strong Microsoft Office, Excel, and ERP experience

Strong Knowledge of GAAP, OMB Uniform Guidance, and IRS Regulations for Tax-Exempt Organizations.

Must be Detail-Oriented, Organized, Communicative, Analytical, Collaborative, and have the ability to Manage Multiple Priorities in a Fast-Paced Environment

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
