Position: Deputy Controller

Reports To: VP of Finance

Position Summary

The Deputy Controller at Arctic Industries will serve as both a tactical accounting leader and a strategic business partner. This individual will be hands-on in executing daily accounting functions while also leading and mentoring a high-performing Finance team. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, the Deputy Controller will bring financial discipline, process improvement, and cost visibility to our fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role requires a deep understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, ERP systems (NetSuite required), and GAAP compliance. The successful candidate will be comfortable engaging at both the transactional and leadership levels, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting while fostering innovation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team, instilling a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a hands-on leader, balancing tactical accounting work with team management.
  • Partner with senior leadership to align financial operations with corporate objectives.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee month-end and year-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Manage day-to-day functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
  • Coordinate annual audit and tax filings with external auditors and CPAs.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

  • Lead the company’s cost accounting processes, including standard costing, bill of materials, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain to improve cost transparency and optimize margins.
  • Develop cost models and KPIs to support pricing, efficiency tracking, and profitability analysis.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Act as the NetSuite ERP champion, ensuring accurate usage across Finance and Operations.
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives to streamline reporting and data integrity.
  • Implement and monitor effective internal control systems.

Strategic & Cross-Functional Support

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Provide detailed financial analysis to guide executive decision-making.
  • Partner with leaders across Sales, HR, and Operations to align financial strategies with growth objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role (Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar).
  • Strong background in manufacturing and cost accounting.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite ERP (required).
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and audit processes.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with proven ability to lead change and process improvement.
  • Strong Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
