Position Summary
The Accounting Clerk will be responsible for performing day-to-day accounting and financial duties to support the finance department. This role requires knowledge of cruise industry operations, travel agency commission structures, supplier invoicing, and financial reconciliation. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple financial tasks accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including cruise line and travel supplier invoices.
- Reconcile supplier statements, commission reports, and vendor accounts.
- Maintain accurate records of bookings, payments, and refunds.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Support payroll processing and reconciliation in coordination with HR.
- Assist in financial reporting, including cash flow, profit & loss, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Collaborate with operations and sales teams to resolve discrepancies related to bookings, commissions, and payments.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Support ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years in accounting, preferably in the cruise or travel agency industry.
- Strong knowledge of cruise line commission structures, travel booking systems, and supplier invoicing.
- Proficiency with accounting software (NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort with spreadsheets, formulas, and pivot tables.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with travel agency technology platforms or cruise reservation systems.
- Familiarity with travel insurance and tour operator accounting processes.
- Understanding of multi-currency transactions and international supplier payments.
- Bachelor's degree preferred
