The Traffic Engineer / Transportation Planner (Mid-Senior Level) will lead and support a variety of traffic engineering, planning, and applied technology projects. This role requires an experienced professional capable of managing tasks independently, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a key technical resource under the guidance of senior leadership. Key Responsibilities
Traffic Engineering & Operations
- Lead and oversee traffic data collection, reduction, and advanced analysis (vehicle counts, speed studies, safety data, pedestrian/bicycle analytics).
- Manage and author traffic impact studies, corridor studies, and complex intersection analyses using industry-standard software (Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM).
- Develop and review traffic signal warrant analyses, sight distance evaluations, and capacity/level-of-service (LOS) assessments.
- Deliver comprehensive Traffic Engineering Studies and Traffic Operations reports tailored for FDOT and local agency clients.
Transportation Planning & Systems Analysis
- Direct travel demand modeling efforts, overseeing model validation, data assembly, and complex scenario analyses.
- Manage subarea studies, corridor planning, and specialized Systems Planning tasks, including Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) and freight analyses.
- Draft and present high-level technical memoranda, planning reports, and presentations for agency stakeholders and public involvement processes.
Project Management & Deliverable Support
- Ensure all technical reports, figures, tables, and presentations meet the highest professional and clarity standards.
- Coordinate directly with Project Managers, clients, and agency representatives to meet strict deadlines and budget constraints.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and planners, providing technical QA/QC on their tasks and workflows.
- Maintain meticulous project documentation consistent with firm QA/QC standards.
Who are you:
Education and Experience
- Experience: 5 to 8 years of progressive professional experience in traffic engineering and/or transportation planning.
- Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a closely related field.
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida or AICP certification is highly preferred (or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months).
- Software Proficiency: Advanced, independent proficiency with traffic analysis and modeling tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS) and familiarity with regional travel demand models.
- Agency Experience: Proven track record working on FDOT, MPO, or Florida municipal transportation projects.
