Job Summary
Jacksonville University seeks a Terry Director for the Terry Family Foundation-supported music grant program for visiting artists and musical groups in Duval County, and to develop the Terry Concert Series as the public presentation platform for selected grant recipients. Through this work, the Terry Director will help establish Terry Concert Hall as an active, professionally managed cultural resource that supports artists, expands audience engagement, and strengthens Jacksonville University's connection to the region's cultural community.
The Terry Director will develop the grant process, annual performance calendar, artist support systems, audience-development strategies, pricing and sponsorship structures, student staffing model, and assessment framework required to ensure the long-term success of the Terry initiative. This is an administrative role focused on the management of the concert hall and does not include teaching responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities
Terry grant program, concert series, and community partnerships
- Lead the Terry Grant Program for visiting artists and musical groups in Duval County and develop the Terry Concert Series as the public presentation platform for selected grant recipients.
- Manage the annual cycle for applications, selection, scheduling, artist support, performance planning, and reporting, beginning with approximately six performances in the first year and building capacity over time.
- Build relationships with artists, musical groups, cultural organizations, civic partners, and community leaders to support participation in the Terry initiative and strengthen Terry Concert Hall's connection to Jacksonville's arts community.
- Ensure that the grant program and concert series are managed with artistic quality, operational discipline, financial responsibility, effective audience engagement, and a strong artist and audience experience.
Fundraising, marketing, and audience development
- Work with the Dean, University Advancement, and Marketing and Communications to support ticket pricing, sponsorship opportunities, donor cultivation, donor stewardship, fundraising strategies, audience development, and promotion of the Terry initiative.
- Support donor relations and fundraising activities connected to the Terry initiative, including donor meetings, sponsorship conversations, donor receptions, artist meet and greets, and stewardship events.
- Support event promotion, audience-facing communications, and basic marketing assistance for selected artists and musical groups participating in the Terry Concert Series.
- Manage the Terry Grant Program budget and a small operating budget for Terry Concert Hall in consultation with the Dean.
Assessment and grant stewardship
- Develop key performance indicators in collaboration with the Dean.
- Track grant activity, attendance, hall usage, audience growth, revenue, sponsorship activity, artist experience, and community engagement.
- Prepare regular updates that report on program activity, key outcomes, budget use, and progress toward established goals.
- Support reporting and stewardship connected to the Terry Family Foundation and other donors or supporters.
Terry Concert Hall operations and front of house
- Oversee scheduling, coordination, and day-to-day operation of Terry Concert Hall in support of the Terry Concert Series, grant-funded performances, and approved university events.
- Supervise student workers supporting front of house, hospitality, basic technical support, event preparation, and guest experience.
- Coordinate with technical staff, facilities, campus safety, marketing, advancement, and other university offices to ensure events are professionally planned and executed.
- Establish clear standards for audience experience, artist hospitality, accessibility, event staffing, and post-event follow-up.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Relevant experience in arts administration, cultural programming, event management, venue operations, nonprofit administration, fundraising support, grant administration, or related field.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, events, deadlines, partners, and operational details.
- Ability to work effectively with artists, donors, community partners, university colleagues, students, and public audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with concert series, performance venues, arts organizations, grant-funded programs, donor-supported initiatives, or community cultural projects.
- Familiarity with Jacksonville or Northeast Florida's arts and culture community.
- Experience helping launch, rebuild, or strengthen a program, event series, or operational system.
Desired Attributes
- A bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Marine Science, or a related field is required; candidates with a Master's degree will be given preference.
- Experience with instrument troubleshooting.
- Experience with chemical and industrial hygiene is desired.
- RCRA and DOT certification is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
- Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
- Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
