POSITION OVERVIEW 
The Diesel Technician position is to repair and maintain ALL mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and air conditioning systems on our fleet of school buses, light and heavy-duty vehicles. Responsible for ensuring the functionality and reliability of machines, engines, and mechanical systems. The position is responsible for the maintenance parts and repair operation of the school division’s bus fleet and other vehicles so that the fleet will be kept in a state of operating excellence so that vehicles present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. Fleet operations and repairs shall meet and be in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES

Directed by the Fleet Manager to repair and maintain operations for ALL mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air conditioning systems on our fleet of school buses, light and heavy-duty vehicles, including garage operations.

Build and assemble machines or mechanical components that meet and comply with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.

Job Summary As a heavy equipment Shop Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of light duty vehicles and heavy equipment used in construction, mining, and other industries. Your expertise will ensure that equipment is running efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. You will work in a well-equipped shop, using diagnostic tools and mechanical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. Key responsibilities include conducting routine maintenance, repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, and electrical components, as well as performing inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, an in-depth knowledge of heavy machinery, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A commitment to safety and quality is essential in this role, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with other team members and management. Experience with various heavy equipment brands and models is preferred, along with a solid understanding of maintenance schedules, repair techniques, and troubleshooting methods. What you do:

<li>Perform diagnostic tests and identify mechanical issues in heavy machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and graders.</li>
<li>Conduct repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems to include interpretation of electrical and hydraulic schematics.</li>
<li>Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to reduce downtime and extend service life.</li>
<li>Inspect and test equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.</li>
<li>Ensure a safe and clean working environment in compliance with safety regulations.</li>
<li>Assist with parts inventory management and ordering of supplies, as necessary.</li>
</ul>
 Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Minimum five years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or similar role.</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems in heavy machinery.</li>
<li>Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.</li>
<li>Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.</li>
<li>Must have experience with Various Diagnostic software programs. </li>
<li>Experience with Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, Komatsu, and aggregate processing equipment, Including Crushers, screeners, and Stackers.</li>
<li>Ability to lift a minimum of fifty pounds.</li>
<li>Valid driver’s license and ability to operate various types of heavy machinery.</li>

Responsibilities:

<li>Provide technical service to vehicles and equipment. </li>
<li>Perform general and detailed repair of all trucks, engines and components. </li>
<li>Overhaul gas or diesel engines. </li>
<li>Install injectors, pistons, liners, cam shafts, cylinder heads, rod and main bearings, oil pans, clutches, fan hubs, differentials, fifth wheels, brakes, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts. </li>

<li>Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and make adjustments as needed. </li>
<li>Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicle to verify conformance to specifications. </li>
<li>Tag all warranty parts and returns to warranty clerk. </li>
<li>Attend training classes and keep abreast of factory technical bulletins. </li>
<li>Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers to increase overall customer satisfaction </li>

Basic Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or general education degree (GED)</li>
<li>5 years’ experience as a Class 7 &amp; 8 technician in a dealership or related truck service facility</li>
<li>Valid driver license (CDL a plus!)</li>
<li>Peterbilt, International, Ford, Hino, Isuzu, Cummins, &amp;/or ASE certifications are preferred &amp; rewarded</li>

We seek to employ a full-time Heavy Equipment Mechanic for our shop located in Leesburg, FL. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, and maintaining our dredges and various construction machinery and focusing on inspecting engines and equipment, providing services, carrying out repairs, and furnishing regular maintenance to our construction fleet. To ensure success in this role, the ideal candidate would possess previous experience working with Construction equipment, must be physically fit, and be capable of resolving concerns on-site. We will train experienced mechanics to apply their skills in our specialized field of dredging.
Requirements

<li>Diagnose defects in a wide range of heavy machinery such as trucks, skid steers, excavators, dredges, pumps, and other related equipment by operating and assessing them.</li>
<li>Adjust, replace, and repair faulty parts, clean, lubricate, and provide routine maintenance on all equipment.</li>
<li>Set up maintenance and service records for all industrial machines and equipment.</li>
<li>Report any malfunctions or damages to the management team promptly.</li>
<li>Willingly work in extreme weather conditions, both outdoors and indoors.</li>
<li>Ability to move quickly in response to signals and observe details at near and far range.</li>
<li>Specialized experience on project sites and a capacity to complete tasks with or without direct supervision</li>

Qualifications
