Job Summary
As an HVAC Install Helper at Hawkins Service Company, you will support the Lead Installer and installation crew on residential and light commercial HVAC system installations. The HVAC Install Helper will assist with material handling, equipment setup, and installation tasks under the direction of the Lead Installer, while learning company standards, manufacturer specifications, and local code requirements. As skills and production develop, this role serves as a growth path toward Installer and Lead Installer positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Installer with installations of residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including split systems, package units, furnaces, air handlers, heat pumps, and ductwork.
- Learn and follow proper installation procedures and safety standards under the guidance of the Lead Installer and Installer team.
- Assist in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and installation instructions.
- Support installations that comply with local building codes, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards.
- Remove and dispose of old HVAC equipment safely and properly.
- Assist with system performance testing, startup procedures, and final inspections as directed by the Lead Installer.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners and clients as needed, directing detailed questions to the Lead Installer.
- Assist with job documentation, installation checklists, and inventory records using company systems.
- Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse, and management teams to ensure materials and equipment are available for scheduled jobs.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and professional manner.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Assist with troubleshooting installation-related issues and warranty concerns under Lead Installer direction.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or HVAC coursework a plus.
- 0-2 years of HVAC or related trade exposure preferred; entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
- No prior leadership experience required; strong work ethic and reliability are key.
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems, ductwork, and airflow is preferred; willingness to learn installation best practices is essential.
- Ability to follow wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals with guidance from the Lead Installer.
- Strong work ethic, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow direction and work effectively as part of an installation crew.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Must have own basic hand tools; company provides specialized and installation-specific equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
- Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, and confined spaces.
- Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate power tools and installation equipment.
