Position Summary
The Industrial Electrical & Controls Commissioning Technician is responsible for supporting the electrical, instrumentation, and controls commissioning activities for industrial modernization projects. This position works closely with the project team during construction, commissioning, and plant startup to verify electrical installations, troubleshoot field issues, and ensure all systems are installed and operating according to engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical system checkout before equipment energization.
- Verify electrical installations against engineering drawings and project specifications.
- Perform point-to-point verification of control wiring.
- Verify digital and analog I/O signals from field devices to control cabinets.
- Inspect instrumentation wiring, calibration status, and loop integrity.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues during commissioning.
- Complete minor electrical modifications and corrections required for startup.
- Support Automation Engineers with PLC I/O checkout, loop testing, and startup activities.
- Maintain commissioning documentation, redline drawings, and punch lists.
- Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), startup, and system stabilization.
- Prepare commissioning reports and document completed work and outstanding issues.
- Assist with shutdown planning and execution.
- Verify Motor Control Centers (MCCs), breakers, overload settings, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and soft starters.
- Perform motor rotation checks.
- Coordinate punch list completion with electrical contractors.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and all applicable safety requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of commissioning procedures, checklists, and documentation.

- Diagnose and resolve electrical and control system issues with minimal supervision.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and control schematics.
- Coordinate effectively with engineers, contractors, operations, and maintenance teams.
- Adapt quickly to changing project priorities and field conditions.
- Maintain accurate commissioning records throughout the project.
- Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and sound technical judgment.
- Continuously improve technical knowledge and commissioning best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
One of the following is preferred:
- Industrial Electrician
- Electrical Technician
- Mechatronics Technician
- Electrical Engineering Technology
A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, or Mechatronics is preferred but not required.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical construction, maintenance, or commissioning experience.
- Experience supporting industrial shutdowns and plant startups.
- Experience in cement, mining, aggregates, power generation, manufacturing, or other continuous-process industries is highly preferred.
