About the Role
Join Marion County’s Solid Waste Department and help manage key infrastructure projects that serve our community. This role supports operations through project management, field inspections, reporting, and coordination of solid waste facilities such as landfills, transfer stations, and recycling centers.
You’ll work on improving efficiency, safety, and sustainability while collaborating with contractors, consultants, and the public.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee the design and construction of solid waste projects.
- Perform field reviews and inspections of facilities and infrastructure.
- Prepare reports, budgets, cost analyses, and project documentation.
- Coordinate contracts, permitting, and bid specifications.
- Manage contractor performance, safety tracking, and compliance.
- Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead or assist public and contractor meetings.
- Maintain accurate job cost, procurement, and performance reports.
- Provide excellent customer service to both residents and County staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role may lead small project teams, oversee contractors, and provide on-the-job training. Involves scheduling, evaluating performance, and ensuring compliance with county standards.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in construction and/or project management (or equivalent mix of education and experience).
Licenses:
- Valid Florida driver’s license (required at hire and throughout employment).
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong project management and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding of construction, environmental, and engineering principles.
- Familiarity with permitting, procurement, and budgeting processes.
- Skilled in report writing and data analysis.
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to stay calm and professional in challenging situations.
Physical Requirements
- Medium work: lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Regular walking, standing, and use of hands and arms.
- Some climbing, stooping, or kneeling required.
Work Environment
- Combination of office and outdoor fieldwork at solid waste facilities.
- Exposure to outdoor weather, moving equipment, and solid waste materials.
- Must be comfortable working around environmental odors and noise.
