Network Services Technician
Location: Technician will report to the New Castle Virginia office
Mileage: Reimbursed for business-related mileage
Purpose of Position
This is a full-time bargaining unit position responsible for the installation and maintenance of plant facilities and customer-owned equipment, including service, repair, and support.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform installations and repairs including telephone, video, broadband, and special services in both fiber and copper plant.

Install fiber and copper enclosures.

Install inside wiring according to company specifications.

Locate and troubleshoot network facilities, ensuring efficient and logical problem resolution.

Perform restoration during service interruptions or outages.
-
Use test equipment such as OTDR, TDR, and other diagnostic tools to record accurate readings.

Perform fiber splicing using various splicing machines.

Operate company vehicles safely (valid driver’s license required).
Special Conditions

Collaborate with other departments to maximize efficiency.

Willing to work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.

May work Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday schedules, including on-call rotation.

Must demonstrate a positive attitude, teamwork, and exceptional customer service skills.
Job Knowledge, Experience & Training
-
Associate degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
-
Willingness to attend training schools, including travel and overnight stays.
-
Strong verbal communication and detail orientation.
-
Ability to work in a technical environment under pressure.
-
Safe work practices and habits.
-
Proficiency in fiber and copper color codes.
-
Experience with broadband technologies (DSL, FTTx, Wi-Fi) preferred.
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to climb ladders and poles.
-
Lift weights exceeding 100 lbs when required.
-
Stooping, crawling, and kneeling as part of daily work.

Must not be color-blind.

Maintain vehicles and supplies in an orderly manner.

Collaborate with contractors as needed.

Training will be provided for motivated candidates.

Desired skills: fiber optic knowledge (including splicing), copper troubleshooting and repair, and customer service experience.

Must not fear heights or confined spaces; must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Will be required to crawl under homes and participate in night on-call rotations.
