Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Data Engineering Manager leads a group responsible for building and maintaining enterprise data platforms, including modern data warehouse environments and existing system integrations. This position emphasizes delivering scalable data engineering solutions while ensuring continuity and performance of legacy data applications.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Platform & Legacy Support

Oversee the design, implementation, and upkeep of data warehouse architectures. Maintain and enhance integrations with existing data systems and applications. Utilize SaaS-based platforms and work directly with technologies such as Snowflake, Oracle, and SQL Server, with practical experience using tools like dbt, Matillion, and other ELT/ETL frameworks.


People Leadership

Manage, coach, and develop a team of data engineers and developers. Set clear priorities, align team efforts with organizational goals, and foster a collaborative, high-performance environment.


Architecture & Delivery Oversight

Drive architectural direction for data solutions and coordinate with external vendors when needed. Partner with Product Owners and DevOps teams to plan, prioritize, and deliver work using Agile practices.


Execution & Reporting

Ensure data initiatives are delivered on time and within scope. Provide visibility into progress through regular reporting on backlogs, data quality indicators, and overall platform performance.


Technical Leadership

Serve as a subject matter expert for data warehousing and legacy platforms. Monitor evolving technologies and industry best practices to guide technical decision-making.


Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with senior leadership and business partners to ensure data engineering efforts support strategic objectives. Clearly communicate timelines, risks, and outcomes.


Data Quality & Governance

Uphold standards related to data accuracy, security, and governance. Ensure solutions meet quality expectations and compliance requirements.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • At least 7 years of experience designing, building, and deploying data warehouses, data platforms, or cloud-based data solutions
  • Minimum of 2 years in a people-management or team-lead role
  • Strong background in data engineering, particularly in data warehousing and legacy environments
  • Proficiency in SQL, data modeling techniques, and scripting languages such as Python and PowerShell
  • Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams
  • Practical exposure to Snowflake, dbt, Matillion, and other ELT/ETL tools
