JOB SUMMARY: Support Teachers are flexible employees who can fill in for other staff members or assist in various classrooms or other areas as needed. Their primary role is to provide support where it’s needed most within the early childhood center. the classrooms at the center in the mornings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • May move between different age groups or classrooms within the center to provide help to the lead teachers or caregivers. This will involve supervising children and may include helping with activities or providing one-on-one support for a specific child.
  • May be responsible for implementing classroom activities in the absence of a teacher for the day or when teachers go on a short break or lunch break. This includes implementation of the daily schedule and routine, leading activities, developing nurturing relationships, and ensuring the safety, security, and supervision of children.
  • Responsible for ensuring all classrooms are stocked with the supplies necessary to operate the classroom; including items such as cleaning supplies, gloves, paper towels, formula, baby food, etc. Responsible for communicating with Director and Facilities Manager when items are low in stock.
  • May be responsible for covering the front desk. This includes, but is not limited to greeting families, accepting payments, documenting attendance, and answering phone calls.
  • Responsible for assisting the cook with plating children’s meals and delivering to the classrooms.
  • May be responsible for laundering sheets, blankets and other items from classrooms.
  • May be responsible for providing office support such as posting fliers throughout the building, filing documents, preparing enrollment packets, or other tasks as assigned.
  • The specific duties of a floater can vary depending on the needs of the center on any given day. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of the center by providing support to the regular staff members and maintaining the well-being of the children. Floaters often need to have good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Preserves the integrity and confidentiality of protected health information of Easter Seals clients.
  • Understands, acknowledges, and implements Easterseals privacy policies involving the disclosure of protected health information of Easterseals clients.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to self-development.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment.
  • Completes all assignments and responsibilities, is flexible and a team player.
  • Acts in accordance with the Easterseals behavioral expectations, mission, vision and values.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma, required
  • DCF 45 hours, required within one year of employment
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, preferred
  • One year of early education experience, preferred
  • Additional training in behavior concepts and behavior management, preferred
  • Experience working with children with special needs, preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to relate positively with young children, families, and staff
  • Willingness to learn about developmentally appropriate practices, DCF standards, ASQ Assessment, and Conscious Discipline
  • Demonstrate success in working as a member of a team, including effective and strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Positive attitude towards individuals with disabilities and the Easterseals work environment and philosophy.
  • Willingness to be flexible and open to change.
  • Possess the qualities of integrity, tact, and good judgment.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Able to receive oral communication via phone and in person
  • Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach
  • Able to see and hear clearly, close up, and within a ten-foot area in order to provide a safe environment.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed
