Meter Technician I
Job Description
Reports To: Manager of Operations Department: Operations
Pay Band: 4 – Non-Exempt Effective
Overall
Responsibilities: Responsible for meter maintenance and repairs throughout the City of Miami. This is skilled
and technical work in all phases of installation, inspection, maintenance, and
repair of a variety of parking pay stations including signage installation/removal
and the upkeep of parking facilities equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains, Installs,
inspect, repairs, rebuilds, clean and takes care of parking pay stations and
related signage issues in addition to parking facility equipment.
Conducts
investigations of indications and complaints of parking pay stations malfunctions
and failures in order to detect any reported problems.
Determines needs of repairs
for parking equipment by making recommendations for modifying or purchasing
necessary parts, supplies, materials, services and equipment.
Logs equipment
operations and performance and provides a daily report of each.
Repairs or replaces
parking pay signs damaged by vandalism or malfunctions.
Follows meter key
security procedures and assures that all keys are inventoried.
Performs pay station collections
duties when needed or when instructed by supervisor making sure to follow correct
collection steps and procedures to minimize damage to overall equipment.
Performs all other
related duties as trained and assigned, including
sign and post.
Must inspect ALL city
of Miami parking related signage for damage, potential safety hazard and incorrect
information such as pay by phone location number while tending assigned record.
Reports potential hazard
to supervisor immediately and follow up daily to make sure it gets corrected as
soon as possible.
Refuels company vehicle
if below half tank before end of shift.
Performs a daily
company vehicle inspection and reports any issue that may be found to
supervisor.
Makes sure company radio
and tablet are fully charged at the beginning of each day and accounted for at
the end of shift.
Makes sure pay station
batteries are left connected to charger at end of each shift.
Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent communication and customer service skills,
dependable, productive and self-motivated.
Skills in mechanical maintenance and electronic
record keeping.
Knowledge of tools, equipment, parts and
techniques used in repairing parking pay stations, pay signs and other parking control
devices.
Knowledge of City geography.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary
safety precautions applicable to maintenance and repair work.
Considerable knowledge of the procedures and
methods used in the installation, inspection maintenance, repair, rebuilding,
cleaning and general care of all parking pay stations and related equipment and
ability to apply such knowledge.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state and
local laws, ordinance, regulations and guidelines, and City and department
policies and procedures.
Ability
to:
Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends
and holidays.
Work well with others and work in a team environment.
Exercise good judgement and tact in tenuous
situations.
Maintain and service parking pay stations and
related equipment.
Work with power tools, such as drills, core drills,
Sawzall and generators.
Analyze information from a variety of sources,
assess a situation, use sound judgment in drawing valid conclusion, and take
appropriate actions.
Understand, retain, and apply detailed, complex
and highly technical written, verbal and demonstrated procedures, information
and regulations as applied to a variety of functions and situations.
Prepare and maintain accurate, detailed and
comprehensive information via electronic reports.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
in addition to electronically.
Establish and maintain effective working
relationships with supervisor, employees and the general public.
Job Knowledge:
Experience/Skills -
Basic mechanical maintenance skills.
Education - Equal to
high school or trade school.
Requires the use of simple measuring
instruments. Checking, preparation,
interpretation and use of electronic reports.
Judgment and Decision Making:
Repetitive or routine duties involving clearly
defined standard practices. Some minor
decisions and judgment within established precedent. Referral to supervisor of questionable
decisions.
Responsibility:
Part-time direction of one (1) or two (2) employees performing the same or related work without responsibility for costs,
methods or personnel.
Inattention or careless operation of equipment
may cause lost time injury to self or others in immediate area.
Prevent errors that may involve losses such as
cash shortfalls, improper costs, waste of materials, damage or loss of
equipment.
Work not continually subject to verification or
check, although errors usually remain within the Agency.
Operates and maintains assigned vehicles and must follow all traffic and parking laws
while operating a company vehicle.
Regular contacts with subordinates and/or other
departments, general public and customers requiring tact, to avoid friction and
obtain cooperation.
Maintaining a clean and tidy work area.
Physical Effort:
Occasional lifting of heavy weight material in
difficult work positions.
Walk for an extended period.
Working Conditions:
Somewhat unpleasant working conditions. Exposure to elements, such as noise, dirt,
heat and rain.
May include revision of parking inventory following
a natural disaster.
