Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service by managing both inbound and outbound communications with customers. This includes direct in-person and phone-based interactions to address a wide range of inquiries related to pharmacy services, delivery inquiries, and pharmacy assistance calls. The technician is also tasked with resolving customer complaints, processing new pharmacy referrals, verifying insurance coverage, and facilitating prior authorization requests. Accurately transcribing prescriptions, generating cycle fill calendar reports, and coordinating delivery are also key responsibilities. This position supports pharmacological services by verifying fill lists and updating patient information, ensuring all actions are compliant with HIPAA regulations. The role reports directly to the Pharmacy Manager, or to the Director of Operations in the manager's absence.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inbound and outbound customer calls, ensuring high levels of customer service and productivity.
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries and complaints related to pharmacy services and deliveries.
  • Receive and process new pharmacy referrals and verify insurance coverage.
  • Facilitate prior authorization requests and accurately transcribe prescriptions.
  • Generate and follow up with refill requests using escribe, facsimile, or phone.
  • Coordinate delivery and act as the first point of contact for service-related inquiries.
  • Support pharmacological services by editing fill list verification and updating patient information.
  • Enter and maintain accurate and complete patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a board-approved pharmacy technician-training program
  • 2+ years of experience in a medical insurance, billing, or customer service environment
  • Strong knowledge of medication brands, generics, and dosing/day supply
  • Valid Florida Pharmacy Technician License
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access
  • Experience in data entry
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Teamwork, punctuality, organization, and time management skills
  • Problem-solving abilities

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • DME experience
  • Telephonic customer service experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Prior authorization experience

Work Environment

The role is based 100% onsite in a fast-paced, high-volume clinic pharmacy. The team is composed of 6 technicians and 3 pharmacists, handling approximately 1500 scripts per week. The shift is Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm, with a staffing ratio of 3 technicians to 1 pharmacist on Saturdays. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oakland Park, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
