Position Title: Child Care/Head Start - Teacher

Position Description Summary: Performs duties planning and implementing educational activities for pre-school aged children in the Head Start Program or Child Learning Center that comply with federal performance standards

Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plans, develops, and implements daily lesson plans that provide for educational and enrichment activities for preschool-age children that meet federal performance standards.
2. Plan and arrange classrooms into distinctive learning areas that promote an effective learning environment.
3. Screen and assess preschool-aged children to determine their developmental and educational needs, and develop and implement individualized education plans that comply with federal performance standards.
4. Monitor meal and snack periods, classroom and restroom activities, and playground activities to ensure a safe environment for young children.
5. Document children's progress or lack thereof, and complete all required manual and computerized forms and reports in accordance with federal requirements.
6. Initiate referrals to the appropriate Lead Teacher by submission of required paperwork.
7. Plan classroom activities for parent and community volunteers.
8. Attends and participates in workshops and other meetings to acquire and disseminate information.
9. Communicates with parents through parent conferences, written correspondence, telephone, and home visits to apprise them of the child's progress, upcoming events, classroom activities, individual education plan changes, and other relevant information.
10. Conducts health checks on children for health concerns, including ringworm, head lice, or other health conditions, and reports to the appropriate nurse.
11. Report suspected child abuse and neglect to the designated state agency.
12. Plan, coordinate, and oversee field trips for assigned children.
13. Request supplies and equipment to be ordered for use by children in the classroom.
14. Serves as a bus monitor in the transportation of children and engages children in song and other developmentally appropriate activities during the ride.
15. Assist in the transportation of special needs children by lifting the child into the seat and fastening the safety belt.
16. Inspect classrooms and grounds to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation, and cleanliness of facilities.
17. · Discuss plans and coordinate concerns regarding the child and family with other Head Start staff members.
18. Perform First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as needed.
19. Perform other related duties as required.
