GROUNDSKEEPER & MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT


A Day in the Life:

The Groundskeeper & Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation and upkeep of our facilities. This role requires a versatile individual who can not only handle maintenance, landscaping and groundskeeping duties but also drive and maintain company vehicles. The Groundskeeper & Maintenance Assistant will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, light carpentry, painting, cleaning, heating and cooling, and other building systems. The Groundskeeper & Maintenance Assistant is an onsite full-time non-exempt position located in Melbourne, FL who reports to the Facilities Manager.


This position operates in a highly scheduled environment but may require longer hours and occasional weekend work and minimal travel as job duties demand. The Groundskeeper & Maintenance Assistant position involves a high physical demand.


The College Internship Program (CIP) is a full-year private young adult transition program for individuals 18-26 with autism, ADHD, and other learning differences offering comprehensive and specialized services. CIP’s programs uniquely address the needs of adolescents and young adults with high-functioning autism, ADHD, and other learning differences by providing a comprehensive curriculum, expert staffing, and a structured weekly schedule. We believe that a learning disability is a learning difference, and our expert staff understand and meet our young adults enrolled in the program where they are at. Our programs focus on the generalization of specialized skills specifically for autism and learning differences. CIP students live with a close-knit community of peers within a supported apartment living setting and fully access the community around them. Each student’s unique needs are met individually as they prepare for success in independent living, college, and employment. CIP is the result of strategies we have developed over 40 years working with hundreds of young people who learn differently and have exceptionalities, helping develop the self-knowledge and skills to live happy and productive lives.



All the Responsibilities We’ll Trust You With:

  • Primary landscaping support in the areas of mowing, snowplowing, pruning, weeding, spraying, maintaining flower beds, mulching, planting, hedge trimming and shaping, walkway edging, leaf and yard cleanup.

  • General building exterior maintenance including but not limited to pool maintenance, cleaning, trash pickup, sprinkler maintenance & repair, blacktop repair, concrete repair, pressure washing, exterior painting, basic carpentry, gutter cleaning, stucco repair, caulking, window maintenance, pest control, and hurricane prep.

  • General building interior maintenance, including light HVAC maintenance & repair, interior cleaning, basic carpentry, drywall repair and patching, texture repair and touchup, painting walls and trim, door repair/replacements, lockset repair & replacement, window blinds repair & replacement, flooring repair and replacement, changing bulbs, changing batteries, light plumbing such as unclogging toilets & sewer lines, repairing fixtures and drain lines, appliance diagnostics and repair, toilet repair & replacement, furniture repair, changing bulbs, batteries, and emergency fixtures.

Qualities You Possess:

  • The Groundskeeper & Maintenance Assistant will possess exceptional communication skills, precise attention to detail, superior organization and prioritization skills, and self-motivation in managing tasks to completion. They will have genuine empathy and awareness of the needs and sensitivities of prospective families, students, and staff.


Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise:

  • At least two years of related experience and/or training.

  • Self-starter and ability to work independently or as part of a small team.

  • Basic computer skills are a plus.

  • Able to operate small equipment/ willing to learn.

  • Able to operate pickup truck/van with trailer.

  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.

  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.

  • Mechanically inclined.

  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.

  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Related experience preferred.

  • On the job training offered.

  • Active Driver’s license is required.
