Position Summary
The Taekwondo Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction consistent with the CPTKD curriculum to students ranging from beginner through advanced levels, including Black Belt. This role requires technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for teaching, mentorship, and student development. The Instructor will contribute to student retention, program excellence, and the overall positive culture of the Academy. The Instructor will have direct daily communication with CPTKD’s founder and Head Master Instructor about all aspects of the studio.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Development
- Deliver engaging, safe, and effective Taekwondo instruction to children, teens, and adults across group classes, introductory programs, and private lessons
- Teach and model the physical techniques, competitive principles, and philosophical tenets of Taekwondo, including courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit
- Develop and implement age-appropriate and skill-appropriate lesson plans aligned with the CPTKD curriculum and Kukkiwon standards
- Provide individualized coaching and feedback to support each student’s technical progress, confidence, and personal growth
- Prepare students for belt testing, demonstrations, and local, regional, and national competitions, as applicable
- Coach and support students during competitions and special events when assigned
Curriculum & Program Support
- Maintain a thorough understanding of CPTKD curriculum, belt test requirements, and instructional standards
- Assist with pre-competition training programs and advanced skill development initiatives
- Support staff development by sharing expertise and best practices
Communication & Community Engagement
- Foster a positive, motivating, and inclusive classroom environment through enthusiasm and constructive reinforcement
- Communicate professionally and effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding expectations, progress, and Academy policies
- Participate in student evaluations and community-building events as scheduled
- Represent CPTKD with professionalism, courtesy, and integrity at all times
Operations & Team Collaboration
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
- Collaborate with fellow instructors and staff to ensure consistent instructional quality and a strong team culture
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe studio environment
- Perform additional related duties to support Academy operations
Required Qualifications
- Kukkiwon-certified Black Belt (World Taekwondo Federation)
- Demonstrated experience teaching Taekwondo to children and adults
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills
- Professional demeanor; reliable, punctual, and approachable
- Basic computer proficiency
- At least 18 years old
- Authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coaching students for tournaments or competitive Taekwondo
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, jump, and demonstrate martial arts techniques for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to approximately 70 pounds
- Frequent verbal communication in group and one-on-one instructional settings
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to supervise students and respond to safety concerns or emergencies
- Work is performed primarily in a martial arts studio setting
