Job DescriptionSalary:

FLIPANY is a 501c (3) non-profit, community-based agency that serves to empower youth and adults through health and wellness programs while influencing policy changes for healthier communities. An approved meal sponsor for the Afterschool Meal Program (AMP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a program federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), FLIPANY is proud to service Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.


Position Overview:

The AmeriCorps Student Enrichment & Nutrition Member reports to the Associate Director and supports the Healthy Meals Out of School Department.

Understanding that nutrition and food insecurity work hand in hand, it is often that those struggling with hunger make their nutritional choices based on price as opposed to nutritional value. Such choices can have long lasting effects on health, obesity, childhood achievements, and more. To combat this FLIPANY prioritizes serving nutritious, protein rich food that helps to facilitate healthy eating and even healthier lifestyles.

The AmeriCorps Student Enrichment & Nutrition Member serves at a FLIPANY-sponsored meal site distributing free afterschool meals to youth in underserved communities. Serving no-cost meals while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulation, the AmeriCorps Student Enrichment & Nutrition Member also has the opportunity to: (1) engage kids and teens in physical and educational enrichment programming, (2) build relationships with children, staff, and the community to promote program engagement, and (3) make a positive impact on the communities we serve while gaining valuable experience in community service and leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate components of meal service and food distribution for kids of all ages at assigned Afterschool Meals sites
  • Co- Lead and/or facilitate the implementation of structured enrichment and nutrition activities for K-12 students in afterschool settings
  • Assisting with on-site programming in a support role and provide supportive relationships through quality and meaningful interactions
  • Complete required food safety handling, and program eligibility trainings, as necessary
  • Ensure State and Federal guidelines are met for eligible programs
  • Aid program leaders in the daily tracking and record keeping as related to meal services and claim reimbursement


Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Valid Florida Drivers License and consistent, daily access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must be at a minimum a high school Senior or enrolled in a GED program
  • Must be available to work Monday- Friday between the hours of 1:30 pm-6:00 pm; up to 21 hours per week
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A self-starter who can work independently as well within a team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs
  • Commitment to serving others and making a positive impact on communities
  • Eligible to work with children as verified by the Department of Children and Families after a Level II background check.

Benefits:

  • Living Allowance of $3,000.00; paid out biweekly ($375.00)
  • Education Award of $1,565.08; earned at the end of term.
