The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for “at-risk” youth.
We are currently seeking a PT Therapist for our Broward Outreach Centers and The Caring Place Center for Men in Hollywood and Miami, FL,
JOB SUMMARY
The Behavioral Health Therapist (BHT) reports to the Behavioral Health Services Manager, and is responsible for counseling individuals or groups regarding mental health and substance abuse, resulting in developing and implementing a comprehensive treatment plan. May also train and oversee student interns in the Behavioral Health Services Department.
CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interviews residents, reviews records, and confers with other professionals to evaluate condition of residents
- Ensures that each client is treated with dignity and respect
- Maintains confidentiality of each client in accordance with Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA)
- Observes residents to detect indications of abnormal physical or mental behavior
- Formulates a customized treatment plan for each resident, and coordinates plan with resident’s case manager
- Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as behavior modification and stress management therapy, to assist resident in controlling disorders. Changes method and degree of therapy depending on resident’s progress.
- Discusses progress toward goals with resident such as controlling anger, substance abuse, or other life controlling problem
- Networks with other agencies as needed
- Monitors condition of residents to evaluate success of therapy.
- Consults with residents’ case manager and other specialists concerning treatment plan and amends plan as directed
- Conducts individual, group, and family counseling as needed and within the confines of the Broward Outreach Centers (BOC) program
- Monitors and mentors student interns, as directed by Supervisor
- Monitors and reviews notes/records of Interns to ensure quality and professionalism
- Serves as liaison between Interns and their referring educational institution as instructed by the Behavioral Health Services Supervisor
- Compiles and maintains confidential, current case notes for each client according to BOC and Affordable Care Act (ACA) standards
- Compiles timely client statistics/outcomes for submission to Behavioral Health Services Supervisor
- Assists with database management
- Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
- Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith
- Performs other related duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a Master’s degree in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or a related field; CAP Certification preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in social services or homelessness services is required;
- 2 - 4 years of counseling and/or 1 - 2 years working with the homeless population preferred.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of the techniques and skills needed to assist clients with bio-psychosocial issues (assessments, treatment plans, referrals, discharges.)
- Requires excellent written communication skills for updating files and preparing reports
- Requires a demonstrated ability to facilitate individual, group therapy, and family counseling for a diverse population
- Must be computer literate, have experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods, and have the ability to lift and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must also be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
- Must also be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
