Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Drafter to support the design and development of marine vessels and components. In this role, you will create and revise detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for structural and mechanical systems used in boats, ships, and marine equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical drafting within a manufacturing environment and a strong understanding of marine design considerations such as corrosion resistance, water tightness, and weight distribution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed mechanical and structural CAD drawings for marine components, assemblies, and vessel layouts using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
- Interpret design specifications and collaborate with marine engineers to transform concepts into production-ready drawings.
- Ensure all drawings comply with marine industry standards (e.g., ABS, ISO, ASME) and regulatory requirements.
- Draft designs for hull structures, propulsion systems, HVAC systems, engine rooms, piping, and other onboard mechanical systems.
- Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), part numbers, and revision control documents.
- Collaborate with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and efficiency of designs.
- Conduct drawing checks and quality reviews for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
- Support prototype development, sea trials, and field modifications by updating drawings and documentation as needed.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or diploma in Mechanical Drafting, Marine Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 2+ years of drafting experience in a mechanical or marine manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, or Siemens NX).
- Knowledge of marine mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and marine classification standards.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with marine design software.
- Knowledge of marine systems such as ballast, bilge, and propulsion.
- Familiarity with corrosion-resistant materials and marine coatings.
- Experience working with composite materials or aluminum fabrication in marine environments.
- Understanding of document control systems and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools.
