Reports to: Chief Legal Officer

Location: Miami, FL (Hybrid) / US Remote

About the Company

At BMG Money, our mission is to provide access to affordable and responsible credit for underserved consumers facing unexpected expenses. We all share one vision— Redefining lending through technology, where underserved individuals can thrive financially through forward-thinking, responsible, and innovative financial solutions.

Job Summary

We are a small, agile team, and we are looking for a highly motivated and skilled attorney to join us as our second dedicated legal hire. This role will report to the Chief Legal Officer and play a pivotal role in driving our legal strategy and the company's growth. A key focus of this role will be commercial contracting, and other responsibilities will include regulatory, litigation and operational matters. As Corporate Counsel, this is a great opportunity for a rock-solid transactional attorney with a desire to become an in-house generalist. It also can be a great match for a fintech generalist who wants to develop subject-matter expertise in consumer lending. You'll oversee BMG Money's commercial contracting function while advising on brand collaborations, channel expansion, and growth into new products and markets. You'll manage complex vendor and partnership agreements, enhance contract playbooks and lifecycle processes, and support cross-functional teams across marketing, production, supply chain, and technology. This is a hands-on role for a proactive, solution-oriented professional who is comfortable wearing many hats and "rolling up their sleeves" to tackle a wide variety of legal work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a lead role in commercial agreements, including partnership agreements, vendor contracts, master service agreements, and licensing agreements..
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing proactive legal support and translating complex legal concepts into practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders. Proactively identify and address legal risks associated with our company's growth.
  • Collaborate with other functional teams, including product, compliance, finance, and engineering, to align legal priorities with business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
  • 5-7+ years of legal experience, preferably in fintech, banking, payments, or another financial services field.
  • In-house experience, especially in growth companies, is a plus.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic legal advice across a wide range of matters.
  • Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills, with experience in handling complex commercial agreements.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work directly with executives and cross-functional teams.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities and bring order to a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
  • Hands-on experience with legal automation tools.
