Job DescriptionDescription:
Responsible for forming, smoothing out, leveling and finishing freshly poured concrete. The ability to work with other members of the construction crew to successfully complete projects within specifications and in a quality manner to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them.
- Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
- Spread, level, and smooth concrete to grade, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.
- Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
- Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process.
- Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms.
- Cut sections of concrete utilizing a street saw.
- Produce rough concrete surface, using broom.
- Mix cement, sand, and water to produce concrete, grout, or slurry, using hoe, trowel, tamper, scraper, or concrete-mixing machine.
- performs other duties as required or assigned
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of forming and finishing different types of concrete (including curb and not limited to flat work).
- Physical dexterity to pour, grade, and finish concrete, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions.
Physical requirements
- Ability to lift 50 or more pounds.
- Must be able to work outdoors and withstand different weather elements.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, crawl, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, and crouch.
- Physical dexterity to pour, grade, and finish concrete, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
