Job Description**Job Summary
**
The Scientist, Optical Engineering – Analytics / Modeling will be crucial in execution of several development and production efforts to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks. This is a hands-on role and job will include hardware integration, testing up to and including final reports for multiple laser systems development programs.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
**

Performs and coordinates development of advanced laser and optical systems
-
Performs analytical models/analysis of these systems, development of Proof of Concept (POC) models.

Ability to interact with customers’ and potential customers’ technical teams
-
Provide technical input to proposals in support of Business Development and Engineering teams
-
Estimate resource and material needs for the project/product as it relates to the planned tasks.

Support other functional organizations to include recommendations for testing and production
-
Interface with optical vendors providing technical documentation and guidance as needed for them to supply their components to meet system requirements.

Coordinate production transition/hand off to Operations and Quality efforts
-
Provide recommendations on investments to improve operational efficiencies in the engineering organization
-
Assist with technical roadmap development for the product line(s)

Occasional travel to customer and supplier sites, and other IMS locations as needed.

Position may require extended hours, as needed, to meet business objectives.
**REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
**

U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements
-
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
-
Excellent organizational and time management skills

Strong project management skills

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well within and outside of the organization with customers, vendors and leadership with minimal oversight

Ability to work in a fast paced, small team environment

Ability to effectively communicate and transfer system architecture and design knowledge with other disciplines including software and hardware engineering, manufacturing, program management, suppliers and customers

Experience writing BOE’s and supporting proposals

Experience with Technical Supplier Management, Risk and Opportunity Management

Able to provide technical leadership, mentorship and guidance to a team of engineers supporting engineering analysis, architecture, trade studies and continuous improvement.

**EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
**

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 12 years or Graduate degree and minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience
-
10+ years of Optical Test experience in a DoD laser environment
-
10+ years’ experience writing technical documentation and developing analysis and reports
-
10+ years of Laser / Optical engineering experience
-
Proficient with standard and advanced optical engineering software including but not limited to:
-
Wolfram Mathematica
-
Matlab/Simulink, VisualBasic/Excel, Java and Python
-
Specific Modeling Application Experience
-
Symbolic/Numeric/Physics: MathCad, Maple, Theorist and Derive
-
Light Illumination and Radiometrics: TracePro, ASAP, MODTRAN and Mathematica
-
Image & Signal Processing: Mathematica, Matlab and NV-IPM
-
Electro-Optics/Laser: TracePro, Optica, Mathematica, Matlab, LASCAD and GLAD
-
Data Analysis/Statistics: Mathematica, MATLAB, Excel, JMP, and Sigma Plot
-
Nuclear & Atomic Physics: Mathematica, ANSI C & Derive
-
Development Tools: Eclipse IDE, Perforce for version control/tracking

Experience with best practices for optical engineering and program execution and managing multi-discipline programs
