Vessel Captain and Operations Technician
Location: Stuart, FL
CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is a marine consulting firm that provides a broad range of environmental, coastal, and oceanographic services in the U.S. and internationally since 1970. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the dual role of Vessel Captain and Operational Technician. Ideally this candidate is a seasoned mariner with the ability to captain a 30’ dive vessel and manage day-to-day operations related to vessel maintenance, crew coordination, compliance, and operational planning. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to safety and professionalism. This position will be based out of the corporate headquarters in Stuart, FL..
Location: Stuart, Florida
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Safely operate a 30’ dive vessel in various conditions, ensuring the safety of passengers, divers, crew, and cargo.
- Trailer, launch, and recover vessel from various ramps around FL.
- Able to learn and operate Hypack navigations software package.
- Flexible work schedule with willingness to work over 40 hours a week if needed and able to travel for two+ weeks.
- Plan and execute navigation and voyage strategies, considering weather, tides, and other operational factors.
- Oversee compliance with USCG regulations, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
- Conduct regular vessel, truck, and trailer inspections and ensure all equipment is operational and maintained.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports, including voyage records, maintenance logs, and incident reports.
- Maintenance, repair, and overall readiness of the vessel(s), trailers, and trucks under your responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with all STCW requirements and USCG regulations.
- Adhering to all company standards and procedures, including, but not limited to:
- Compliance with company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy (including pre-employment, annual, random, and for-cause drug and alcohol screening).
- Adherence to corporate Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental policies, protocols, and training, and,
- Other Duties as assigned.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Valid USCG Captain’s license preferred but not required.
- Proven experience captaining vessels in a variety of conditions.
- Strong knowledge of maritime safety regulations, navigation, and vessel maintenance.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- In person position based out of Suart, FL.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Familiarity with the waters around Florida is preferred but not required.
- STCW certifications, including Basic Safety Training and applicable endorsements are preferred but not required as long as willing and able to obtain.
- Willingness and desire to learn and participate in other CSAOS operational disciplines.
Work Environment:
This position is based in Florida and involves both on-water and onshore responsibilities. The candidate must be flexible to accommodate varying schedules, including occasional weekends, holidays, or extended voyages.
