Position Summary
This is a hybrid role with required in-office days. Candidates must be able to work from our office on designated days each week.
The Senior ETL Developer / Team Lead will lead a team of ETL developers and data integration specialists responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining enterprise data pipelines and ingestion frameworks. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership and team management skills.
The ideal candidate has deep experience in healthcare data (claims, EHR, eligibility, HEDIS/quality, risk adjustment), enterprise ETL development, and modern data engineering stacks. They will elevate our integration capabilities, enforce data quality standards, improve scalability, and ensure the timely delivery of mission-critical data feeds.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and performance-manage a team of ETL developers and specialists.
- Oversee workload planning, sprint execution, code reviews, and technical guidance.
- Establish and enforce best practices for coding standards, documentation, and QA.
- Provide coaching, career development, and skills advancement within the team.
- Collaborate with product, software development, QA, and client onboarding teams.
Technical Leadership
- Architect and optimize ETL/ELT frameworks for scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Lead the design of ingestion pipelines for healthcare data sources (837/835, 270/271, 277CA, CCD/C-CDA, FHIR, EMR flat files, HL7, ADT feeds, pharmacy claims, labs, etc.).
- Define data quality, validation, and reconciliation processes.
- Own data integration SLAs and ensure timely, reliable data delivery.
Hands-On Development
- Develop ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Python, SQL, dbt, SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Matillion, or similar.
- Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance-optimized transformations.
- Implement automation, scheduling, and orchestration using Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or similar.
- Contribute to modernizing the data stack (cloud migration, ELT patterns, metadata-driven pipelines).
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with product managers and client success teams to translate data requirements into technical specifications.
- Troubleshoot complex data issues, root-cause defects, and implement long-term fixes.
- Support onboarding of new clients, new data feeds, and new data products.
- Partner with compliance/security teams to maintain HIPAA, SOC2, HITRUST, and data security standards.
Quality & Operational Excellence
- Implement continuous improvement processes and automation to reduce manual work.
- Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and logging for all pipelines.
- Maintain clear documentation of data mapping, transformations, and workflows.
- Drive initiatives to improve data latency, completeness, and accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in ETL/ELT development, data engineering, or data integration.
- 3+ years leading or managing ETL or data engineering teams.
- Expert SQL skills and strong experience with relational databases (SQL Server, Postgres, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Hands-on experience with ETL tools (SSIS, Talend, Matillion, dbt, ADF, Airflow, etc.).
- Strong background in healthcare data integration, including formats such as:
- Claims: 837/835, encounter data
- Eligibility & enrollment: 270/271, monthly rosters
- Clinical: HL7, FHIR, CCD/C-CDA, EMR exports
- Quality/Risk: HEDIS, CMS models, risk adjustment
- Experience designing scalable data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, warehousing concepts, and MDM.
- Experience implementing data validation, QA frameworks, and reconciliation logic.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in value-based care, population health, or Medicare Advantage analytics.
- Experience with real-time or streaming data (Kafka, Kinesis, EventHub).
- Experience integrating with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Athena, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, etc.).
- Familiarity with SOC 2, HIPAA, PHI, and HITRUST data governance.
- Experience with agile methodologies and JIRA/Azure DevOps.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
