Job Description

Company Overview:

We are a fast-growing Healthcare Data Analytics SaaS company that empowers health systems, health plans, and accountable care organizations (ACOs) to make data-driven decisions that improve clinical, financial, and operational outcomes. Our platform provides real-time insights, population health analytics, risk stratification, and performance measurement capabilities that support value-based care and quality improvement initiatives.

Position Summary

This is a hybrid role with required in-office days. Candidates must be able to work from our office on designated days each week.

The Senior ETL Developer / Team Lead will lead a team of ETL developers and data integration specialists responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining enterprise data pipelines and ingestion frameworks. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership and team management skills.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in healthcare data (claims, EHR, eligibility, HEDIS/quality, risk adjustment), enterprise ETL development, and modern data engineering stacks. They will elevate our integration capabilities, enforce data quality standards, improve scalability, and ensure the timely delivery of mission-critical data feeds.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and performance-manage a team of ETL developers and specialists.
  • Oversee workload planning, sprint execution, code reviews, and technical guidance.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for coding standards, documentation, and QA.

  • Collaborate with product, software development, QA, and client onboarding teams.

Technical Leadership

  • Architect and optimize ETL/ELT frameworks for scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Lead the design of ingestion pipelines for healthcare data sources (837/835, 270/271, 277CA, CCD/C-CDA, FHIR, EMR flat files, HL7, ADT feeds, pharmacy claims, labs, etc.).
  • Define data quality, validation, and reconciliation processes.
  • Own data integration SLAs and ensure timely, reliable data delivery.

Hands-On Development

  • Develop ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Python, SQL, dbt, SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Matillion, or similar.
  • Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance-optimized transformations.
  • Implement automation, scheduling, and orchestration using Airflow, Azure Data Factory, or similar.
  • Contribute to modernizing the data stack (cloud migration, ELT patterns, metadata-driven pipelines).

Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with product managers and client success teams to translate data requirements into technical specifications.
  • Troubleshoot complex data issues, root-cause defects, and implement long-term fixes.
  • Support onboarding of new clients, new data feeds, and new data products.
  • Partner with compliance/security teams to maintain HIPAA, SOC2, HITRUST, and data security standards.

Quality & Operational Excellence

  • Implement continuous improvement processes and automation to reduce manual work.
  • Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and logging for all pipelines.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data mapping, transformations, and workflows.
  • Drive initiatives to improve data latency, completeness, and accuracy.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in ETL/ELT development, data engineering, or data integration.
  • 3+ years leading or managing ETL or data engineering teams.
  • Expert SQL skills and strong experience with relational databases (SQL Server, Postgres, Redshift, BigQuery).
  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools (SSIS, Talend, Matillion, dbt, ADF, Airflow, etc.).
  • Strong background in healthcare data integration, including formats such as:
    • Claims: 837/835, encounter data
    • Eligibility & enrollment: 270/271, monthly rosters
    • Clinical: HL7, FHIR, CCD/C-CDA, EMR exports
    • Quality/Risk: HEDIS, CMS models, risk adjustment
  • Experience designing scalable data pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, warehousing concepts, and MDM.
  • Experience implementing data validation, QA frameworks, and reconciliation logic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in value-based care, population health, or Medicare Advantage analytics.
  • Experience with real-time or streaming data (Kafka, Kinesis, EventHub).
  • Experience integrating with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Athena, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SOC 2, HIPAA, PHI, and HITRUST data governance.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and JIRA/Azure DevOps.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.

Success Indicators (First 12 Months)
