Job DescriptionQuality Counts (QC) is seeking a Database Architect to design and evolve data platforms and data lakes. Database Architect – Transportation Data – Duties:
- Design and evolve QC’s cloud-native data lake and analytical data platform, supporting large-scale transportation datasets across ingestion, storage, transformation, QA, analytics, and downstream publishing.
- Own the data architecture end-to-end
- Perform overall data lake architecture (raw → curated → analytics → publishing layers)
- Deploy data modeling strategies for time-series, geospatial, and high-volume event data
- Implement storage format decisions (row vs columnar, partitioning strategies, versioning)
- Employ data governance patterns (schemas, metadata, lineage, lifecycle management)
- Identify performance and cost tradeoffs across analytical and operational workloads
- Oversee long-term evolution of the platform as data volume and use cases grow
- Partner closely with application, analytics, and DevOps teams to ensure the platform is scalable, governed, observable, and extensible over time.
Database Architect – Transportation Data – Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional (non-academic) experience in database engineering or related roles
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or adjacent field of study
- Experience designing analytical data platforms or data lakes (not just application databases)
- Experience with columnar and analytical storage formats (e.g., Parquet, ORC, Iceberg, Delta Lake)
- Experience with data partitioning, versioning, and lifecycle management at scale
- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server)
- Experience with NoSQL databases and modern data stores
- Experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, or similar)
- Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience with backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies
- Experience building or supporting ETL/ELT data pipelines
- Familiarity with data cataloging, metadata management, or schema evolution strategies
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Database Architect – Transportation Data – Optional but recommended:
- Experience with geospatial data (PostGIS, spatial indexing, map-based analytics)
- Experience supporting analytics tools (Athena, BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, etc.)
- Event-driven or serverless data pipelines
- Experience designing systems that must coexist with legacy platforms

Database Architect – Transportation Data – Salary: $115,000-$125,000 + annual performance bonuses
