Cherry Bekaert has been proudly providing Accounting and Advisory services to our clients for over 75 years! We are seeking a Property Tax Director.
The location is flexible and remote would be considered. Some of our larger offices include Atlanta, DC, Richmond, Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa and South Florida.
The successful candidate will supervise staff on consulting engagements that they lead and is responsible for delivering efficient, accurate, and timely preparation and review of all consulting projects. The primary responsibilities of the Property Tax Manager are focused in the following:
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development and execution of property tax strategies to optimize tax liabilities across the company’s real estate portfolio.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of property tax returns and related documentation.
- Review and analyze property tax assessments, and assist in challenging valuations when appropriate.
- Coordinate property tax appeal processes, including communication with assessors, external consultants, and legal counsel.
- Conduct due diligence for acquisitions and dispositions, identifying property tax implications and opportunities.
- Stay informed on changes in property tax laws, regulations, and assessment practices across jurisdictions, and communicate updates to leadership.
- Collaborate with internal teams including finance, accounting, legal, and asset management to support integrated tax planning and reporting.
- Assist in negotiations with taxing authorities to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Maintain relationships with external property tax consultants, appraisers, and legal advisors.
- Prepare and manage property tax budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Utilize property tax software and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership on property tax matters.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of experience in property tax management, preferably within a real estate organization, public accounting firm, or corporation with significant real estate holdings.
- Strong understanding of property tax law, valuation methodologies, and assessment appeal processes.
- Proven ability to manage and reduce property tax liabilities.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional certifications such as CMI, CCIM, MAI, or similar are a plus.

The salary range for this position is included below. Individual salaries within this range are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education, knowledge, skills, and geographic location. Pay Range:
$103,900 to $161,600
