Job DescriptionSENIOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER
General Function / Summary:
The Principal Software Engineer serves as a senior technical leader focused on driving the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of SmartPay Leasing’s development and operations infrastructure. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic oversight, guiding DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and system observability. As a cross-functional partner to Engineering, Product, and Security teams, the Principal Engineer ensures our platforms are stable, performant, and built to scale. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for automating complexity to accelerate delivery and improve system resilience.
Essential Duties:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable software, systems, and infrastructure based on product needs and architecture.
- Lead DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, monitoring, and incident response.
- Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, performance, and efficiency.
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize tools to enhance development and deployment workflows.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and security teams to support agile delivery and ensure software quality.
- Develop and execute automated testing frameworks to validate functionality and performance.
- Enhance and maintain existing software, resolving defects and improving integrations.
- Translate business requirements into scalable, high-quality solutions.
- Mentor engineers and promote best practices in coding, testing, and operations.
Minimum Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred), with 8+ years in software engineering and 3+ in DevOps or infrastructure roles.
- Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Deep experience with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, scalable distributed systems, and Java technologies (Java SE/EE, Spring).
- Proven ability to design enterprise applications, lead cross-functional technical initiatives, and mentor teams.
- Strong problem-solving, system architecture, performance tuning, and communication skills.
Physical Demands:
- Standard office working environment, remote eligible.
- Extended viewing of computer screens and extended typing.
Travel:
- Willingness to travel for field visits, events, or meetings as needed.

Salary Range: $120,000- $150,000 Annually
Our compensation structure considers various geographical markets within the United States. The base salary for this role reflects the typical expected earnings. However, the final compensation package will be determined by several factors, including your location, job-specific expertise, skills, experience, and other relevant job-related considerations.
