The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in supporting providers and patients by performing administrative and clinical tasks. The MA ensures efficient patient flow, accurate medical documentation, and a high standard of patient care.Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare exam rooms and assist providers during examinations and procedures.
- Take and record vital signs, patient history, height, weight, and other information as required.
- Administer injections, medications, and immunizations as directed by the provider.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens (e.g., blood, urine) for testing.
- Perform EKGs, wound care, and other basic procedures within scope of practice.
- Ensure patient comfort and answer routine questions.
- Maintain clean and sanitary exam rooms and medical equipment.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule patient appointments and manage check-in/check-out process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Obtain insurance authorizations and verify insurance eligibility as needed.
- Answer phone calls and relay messages to the clinical team.
- Follow up on test results and patient referrals.
- Manage inventory and order medical supplies.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical or outpatient setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and EHR systems (e.g., Epic, eClinicalWorks).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Compassionate, professional, and team-oriented approach.
- Bilingual English and Spanish a Plus
Schedule: Monday to Friday 9 AM to 5 PM and/or center hours
