We are looking for an Early Head Start Mental Health Consultant who believes in taking positive steps to impact a child's life and those who know the importance of enhancing their emotional development and mental health. This position is responsible for supporting the social emotional growth of children (6 weeks - 3 years old) in Early Head Start Programs through observation, planning with parents and caretakers, and training. This position is part time with an average of 15 hours a week, typical schedule is 8:00am - 1:00pm, but must be flexible in order to meet the needs of our clients.
Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct child and/or classroom observations to inform creation of consultation plans.
- Develop and maintain cooperative and positive working partnerships with children, parents, staff and other professionals.
- Develop and provide trainings to families and Early Head Start staff requested by funding agency.
- Utilize evidence based practice such as Trauma Informed Care, Conscious Discipline, The Pyramid Model and Positive Behavior Support to inform interventions.
- Review and interpret assessments such as the DECA and the ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE and share results with parents and caretakers.
- Complete all required documentation timely and accurately including: monthly logs, observation notes, assessments, plans, consultation notes, progress notes and referrals.
Skills/Requirements
- Must have a Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage & Family Therapy; and minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children and families providing mental health services. Knowledge of infant mental health preferred; and demonstrated experience in working with early childhood mental health preferred.
- Must be Licensed or licensed eligible.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in MS Office.
- Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Able to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of our clients.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills and be able to perform in an empowered environment by working collaboratively with other professionals, personnel and direct service providers. Must be familiar and comfortable working with diverse populations.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license, satisfactory driving record and proof of auto insurance. Must utilize own vehicle for conducting home visits to assigned centers.
