Title: Principal Backend Engineer
Location: REMOTE or in Fort Lauderdale, FL
Salary: $135k-$175k (depends on experience) + benefits
Requirements: 8+ years back-end development, AWS services, Node.js, RESTful APIs, relational databases. Preferred experience in event-driven architectures, observability tools and graph databases. Background in lending/finance is ideal.

Position Overview
We are an established and growing software/lending service specialized in small business lending. Due to growth, we are now seeking a highly skilled Principal Backend Engineer to lead our backend microservices that power our lending/banking SaaS platform. This role involves designing and implementing scalable and reliable backend systems while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of backend systems and APIs.
  • Architect and implement cloud-native applications using AWS services.
  • Ensure the performance, scalability, and security of applications.
  • Collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to define and implement new features.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and improvement.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and automate deployment processes to improve efficiency.
  • Manage database systems and ensure data consistency and reliability.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to drive innovation within the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in backend development, particular strength with Node.js.
  • Strong experience with containerization tools- Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
  • Proficiency in designing RESTful APIs and working with PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization.
  • Experience with cloud services including EC2, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, and SNS/SQS.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools like GitHub, GitLab, CircleCI, and AWS CodePipeline.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools and practices.
  • Understanding of security best practices for scalable online services.
  • Previous experience in lending or finance industry is ideal.
