Job DescriptionPosition Overview

As a Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for operating manual machine tools to precision-remachine, finish, and repair core transmission components. Working closely with our remanufacturing team, you will ensure that parts meet strict tolerances and quality standards, contributing to the reliability and performance of our CVT units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain manual machines (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses) to machine parts used in CVT remanufacturing.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and machining plans to produce parts to specification.

  • Measure and inspect finished workpieces for accuracy using micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.

  • Maintain tight tolerances in machining operations and ensure parts meet dimensional, surface finish, and quality requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to resolve machining issues, suggest improvements, or make corrections.

  • Perform routine maintenance on machining equipment, keep tools sharp, align machines, clean up machine areas, and follow safety protocols.

  • Keep accurate records of machining operations and times, part serial numbers, deviations, and corrections.

  • Assist in tooling and fixtures selection or fabrication as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training in machining or a related field preferred.

  • Proven experience (e.g. 2-5 years) as a machinist using manual machine tools.

  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, feeds & speeds, cutting depths, fixturing.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.

  • Proficient with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.).

  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight tolerances and quality standards.

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, good problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of safety practices in a machining environment.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude; experience with transmission or automotive components is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift moderate weights (e.g. parts, fixtures, tooling) as required.

  • Stand for long periods, frequently bend, reach, kneel during machining tasks.

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Ability to work in a noisy, shop environment, sometimes with cutting fluids, metal chips, dust, etc.
