Job Overview


As an Optometric Technician, youll play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience. From performing preliminary eye tests to assisting with the optometrist's exams, youll be directly involved in helping patients achieve optimal eye health. This role requires strong communication, technical skills, and a desire to work with patients of all ages.

Key Responsibilities


  • Pre-Testing and Patient Prep: Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity, auto-refraction, tonometry, and other diagnostic imaging.
  • Patient Interaction: Guide patients through the eye exam process, answer basic questions, and ensure a comfortable and positive experience.
  • Exam Room Setup: Prepare exam rooms and equipment, and assist the optometrist during exams as needed.
  • Optical Equipment Management: Calibrate and maintain diagnostic equipment, ensuring all tools and machinery are in optimal working condition.
  • Documentation: Record patient history, test results, and other relevant information in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Contact Lens Training: Educate and assist patients in contact lens insertion, removal, and care.
  • Assistance with Patient Follow-Up: Schedule appointments, answer phone inquiries, and provide test results as directed.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory of optometric tools, supplies, and contact lenses.

Qualifications


  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or certification in optometry assistance is a plus.
  • Experience: Prior experience as an optometric technician or in a similar healthcare role is preferred but not required.
  • Technical Skills: Comfortable using optometric equipment and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Interpersonal Skills: Friendly, patient, and able to communicate effectively with diverse groups of patients.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
