The role of a Phlebotomist II is vital in ensuring the efficient operation of specimen collection and handling processes. This position involves troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens accurately.
- Record maintenance data and conduct decontamination procedures as needed.
- Update patient information and ensure it is accurate and current.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and protocols.
- Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders precisely.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.
- Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens properly for transport and store samples at the required temperature.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, and attend annual departmental training.
- Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results when necessary.
Essential Skills
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience in the field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomist Technician (CPT) certification.
- 4+ years of experience performing high-volume draws in a lab setting.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and standards. Candidates should be comfortable working with lab equipment and handling various specimen types. The dress code is professional, suitable for a medical setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Naples, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.25 - $19.25/hr.
