Job DescriptionDescription:Position Summary:
The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing a high-quality, developmentally appropriate early learning environment. This role leads the classroom team in delivering instruction aligned with Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and all applicable state guidelines. The Lead Teacher supports the social, emotional, and academic development of each child while ensuring the classroom meets all licensing and programmatic requirements, including ASQ screenings, ALRI, USDA compliance, and family engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lesson plans based on Creative Curriculum, tailored to the interests and developmental needs of children.
- Conduct regular observations and document progress using Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Deliver instruction in accordance with VPK standards and lead ALRI (Assessment-to-Learning and Responsive Instruction) sessions as needed.
- Administer and track ASQ developmental screenings; communicate results with families and create follow-up plans when necessary.
- Oversee classroom routines, including mealtimes, rest periods, diapering, toilet training, and transitions, maintaining compliance with DCF regulations.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting, including child portfolios, USDA Food Program paperwork, and incident/accident reports.
- Provide active supervision and engagement during indoor and outdoor play; maintain a safe and clean learning environment at all times.
- Build and maintain strong communication with families through daily updates, conferences, and parent engagement activities.
- Model positive behavior and guidance techniques; support children in building emotional regulation and social skills.
- Collaborate with Support Teachers and classroom volunteers to ensure consistency in classroom expectations and quality care.
- Participate in all required staff meetings, trainings, professional development, and program assessments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support classroom operations and center needs.
Requirements:Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) or Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC).
- Experience working in early childhood education; supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, ASQ, USDA Food Program, and VPK/ALRI implementation.
- Ability to lead a team, manage classroom responsibilities, and maintain strong communication with families and staff.
- Strong organizational, observation, and documentation skills.
- Must meet all DCF screening, training, and health requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage in classroom and playground environments.
Working Conditions:
- Work takes place in both indoor classroom and outdoor playground settings.
- Requires regular physical activity including standing, lifting, bending, and sitting at child level.
- Exposure to typical childhood illnesses and cleaning materials.
