POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Physicist is a board-certified specializing in therapeutic clinical services in external beam, including Adaptive-RT, SBRT, SRS, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SGRT, brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceutical programs. Your work will ensure the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiation therapy for our patients, making a direct impact on their care and outcomes.
At the Cancer Center of South Florida (CCSF), the Medical Physicist plays a vital role within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, requiring strong clinical and interpersonal skills to provide excellent clinical care, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and leadership within the field of radiation oncology.
In addition to fulfilling essential clinical responsibilities, the Medical Physicist is expected to embody the shared values and professional standards that guide our organizational culture and partnership pathway.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Quality & Efficiency
- Assist in establishing and implementing the specifications for acceptance testing, calibration, and performance of all radiation simulation, radiation delivery, radiation measurements, treatment planning, QA software and associated equipment, and radiation doses to comply with all applicable regulatory, professional, and accreditation bodies.
- Participates in quality assurance program consistent with American Association of Physicists in Medicine recommendations, including monthly and annual quality assurance tests of equipment and weekly checks of patient charts.
- Work in conjunction with the Chief Medical Physicist and TGH/MGB to implement physics and radiation quality management programs and review and approve procedures.
- Knowledge of Radiation Oncology network treatment equipment, treatment planning services, treatment delivery, and ancillary equipment.
- Ensure proper maintenance of radiation treatment equipment.
- Provides high-quality, cost-effective physics and treatment planning, patient dosimetry and radiation dose calculations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in radiation oncology and best practices.
- Demonstrates personal reliability and efficiency in managing treatment planning responsibilities.
- Performs and verifies treatment planning calculations and related patient billing.
- Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) certification.
- Completes mandatory education and training to maintain department-specific competencies and requirements
- Follows department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Collegiality
- Collaborate with the physicians, chief physicists, dosimetrists, therapists, and administrative staff to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care.
- Participate in chart rounds, case reviews, care planning discussions, and quality, safety, and operations meetings.

- Create and implement personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs based on the physician's directive.
- Provide clear, compassionate communication and guidance with the clinical staff.
- Maintain high patient and staff satisfaction through courtesy, respect, and service excellence.
- Engage in ongoing communication with the clinical staff to promote trust and shared decision-making.
Regulatory & Ethical Compliance
- Comply with all federal and state healthcare laws, including HIPAA, FCA, AKS, and the Stark Law.
- Follow CCSF’s internal policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
- Maintain a valid, unrestricted medical license and promote a culture of compliance and accountability.
Requirements:
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Master's or PhD degree in medical physics or related discipline.
- Certified in therapeutic medical physics from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certification from the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP).
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of radiation oncology, diagnostics, and evidence-based radiation treatment protocols
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making in complex medical planning situations.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment while promoting collegiality and mutual respect, and clearly communicate with the care teams.
- Ability to manage time and have a high attention to detail.
- Ability to demonstrate integrity and compliance with medical, ethical, and legal standards.
- Knowledge of Varian and GE equipment, use of electronic medical records, treatment planning systems, and QA software.
