Responsibilities of Speech Language Pathologist or CFY

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with communication and swallowing disorders.

  • Work with patients of all ages in various settings, including hospitals and pediatric clinics.

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing abilities.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on evaluation results.

  • Provide therapy sessions to improve communication skills, including speech articulation, language comprehension and expression, voice quality, fluency, and pragmatics.

  • Administer standardized tests and assessments to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.

  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients.

  • Educate patients and families on strategies for improving communication and swallowing abilities.

  • Document patient progress accurately and maintain detailed records.

Requirements of Speech Language Pathologist or CFY

  • Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

  • Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure as a FL Speech Language Pathologist.

  • Experience in acute care settings preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, case management, and patient care practices.

  • Familiarity with geriatric speech therapy techniques and interventions.

  • Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology related to speech, language, and swallowing disorders.

  • Proficient in patient assessments and treatment plan development.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and families.

  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
