Job Summary:
Process Improvement Specialist is tasked with analyzing, designing, and implementing enhanced manufacturing processes to boost efficiency and product quality. This role requires a hands-on, observant individual who is comfortable working on the floor, engaging with employees across roles, and challenging the status quo to improve efficiency, safety, and quality. The Specialist will also be responsible for developing and updating SOPs, training staff, and continuously monitoring and refining processes to achieve optimal performance.
Job Responsibilities:
· Spend time in each department to observe current workflows, tasks, and interactions to identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks
· Proactively ask staff about challenges, pain points, and recurring issues in their day-to-day responsibilities
· Consistently ask why, how and where processes take place, never being afraid to question current processes
· Develop, document, and maintain SOPs for new and existing workflow processes
· Propose impactful changes (tooling, layout, workflow adjustments) to reduce time, motion, and error; as well as boost employee comfortability and productivity
· Coordinate trials or pilot programs for proposed changes and follow through to implementation when successful
· Work with engineering, production, sales, shipping, and inventory teams to ensure improvements are practical, sustainable, and implemented properly
· Conduct detailed process analyses to identify areas for improvement in manufacturing efficiency and product quality
· Maintain a project tracker with before/after metrics, estimated ROI, and implementation status
· Promote a Culture of Continuous Improvement: Encourage staff to contribute their ideas and help develop a feedback loop for ongoing optimization
· Train production staff on new processes and SOPs
Requirements:
Required Experience:
· Industry Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in process improvement or manufacturing engineering, preferably within the marine industry or a similar field
· Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Operations Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
· Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies is a plus (certification a bonus)
· Familiarity with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices in manufacturing
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
· Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on process optimization.
· Proficient in process simulation, lean manufacturing principles, and process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively train and guide staff.
· Strong observational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
· Self-driven, highly organized, and focused on practical solutions
· Comfortable working on the production floor, asking questions, and collaborating across departments
· Proficiency with tools like Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, or process mapping software
· Proficiency with design software such as Solidworks or other relevant engineering tools is a plus
· Familiarity with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices in manufacturing
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
