Diamedics is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Primary Care and Diabetes wellness team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care, supporting physicians and other healthcare professionals, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in a busy primary care setting. The Medical Assistant will perform both clinical and administrative duties, fostering a positive patient experience and contributing to the overall efficiency of the practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Greet patients, verify personal information, and assist with patient intake.
- Take and record patient vitals including temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and height.
- Assist in medical examinations and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Perform routine lab tests and prepare samples for processing.
- Administer medications as directed by physicians, including injections and immunizations.
- Prepare and sterilize medical equipment and instruments.
- Assist with patient education on medical procedures, preventive care, and lifestyle changes.
- Update and maintain accurate patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Ensure proper handling of patient documentation, lab results, and medical correspondence.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, and follow up on missed appointments.
- Answer phone calls and address patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Process insurance verifications and authorizations, and assist patients with insurance-related questions.
- Manage medical office supplies and inventory to ensure availability of necessary equipment.
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and provide relevant medical documentation as needed.
- Process billing and assist in the preparation of patient statements and insurance claims.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or similar (preferred).
- Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is a plus.
- 1-2 years of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, office procedures, and basic clinical skills.
- Proficient in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with patients in a caring and respectful manner.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred or required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist patients with mobility when needed.
- Manual dexterity to handle medical instruments and devices.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced primary care office.
- Interaction with patients of all ages, diverse backgrounds, and varying medical needs.
- May require occasional evening or weekend hours based on office needs.
