RN Visiting Nurse
The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida is currently looking for a full-time Visiting Nurse to work for the Miccosukee Clinic. The Visiting Nurse will conduct home-visits within the Miccosukee community-at-large, and in-patient Clinic setting as needed. Vehicle provided for home visits. Visiting Nurse is responsible for performing public health professional nursing work in the direct care of patients, primarily services delivered in the Miccosukee community; in allocating the type and amount of care to meet individual needs of each patient. Shift available is Monday through Friday 8:30a – 4:30p, with Holiday Clinic rotation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Take a complete health care history of patients
· Assist the nurse practitioner or physician with physical examinations, as necessary
· Assist the nurse practitioner or physician with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written protocols established by nurse practitioner and physician
· Assist in formulating nursing care plans and actively participates in patient/ family teaching as indicated in the patients’ preventive and follow-up healthcare plans.
· Refer patients, under the direction of Nurse Practitioner/Health Director, to other health professionals and agencies under contract with the Tribe, and in accordance with policies
· Share responsibility for maintaining adequate supplies and equipment as well as general upkeep of the unit.
· Participate in safety program, disaster plan and quality assurance program.
· Conduct follow-up examinations and assessments pursuant to clinic and outreach contacts.
· Carry out community health plans by conducting visits to homes, school, clinic to provide patient care counseling and instruction in preventive, curative and rehabilitation health matters.
· Makes home visits according to established priorities.
Administrative
· Maintains records and reports on patients, program status, and other required information for use in program operation, quality assurance and other purposes.
· Prepare and submit all relevant reports, forms and documents
Supervision/Liaison Activities
· Maintain liaison with other Health Department program staff, such as Tribal Outreach Workers, Prevention Education Coordinator, Human Services Counselor/Coordinator and Nutrition Consultant
EDUCATION TRAINING, CONSULTING
· Assist with consultation and planning of the diet care with other health professional agencies
· Provide technical assistance and participate in special health education projects of the Health Department
· Serves as resource person in program planning; providing in-service education for TOW’s and other training when appropriate.
TECHNICAL / PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: Must have, at a minimum, knowledge of Registered Nursing care principles, practices, and procedures required to care for emergency and clinic patients. Must have knowledge of preventative health measures. Must possess knowledge and skill in operation and maintenance of specialized medical equipment. Must have knowledge of treatments prescribed by physician and ability to assist or perform these prescribed treatments.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited/approved school as outlined by the rules and regulations of the State of Florida, Division of Nursing. Registered Nurse
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of experience in RN position.
HUMAN SKILLS: Must be able to work well with individuals and group under unpleasant or stressful conditions. Must be capable of working with people in a cross-culture setting.
OTHER: Must have a valid Florida driver’s license, with safe driving record.
Drug Screen & Background Check Required.
