POSITION SUMMARY
The Lab Analyst is responsible for the implementation, configuration, testing, training, ongoing support, and optimization of MEDITECH Laboratory applications, including Laboratory, Microbiology, and Blood Bank, within a multi-hospital health system. This role ensures seamless integration, data integrity, and efficient system functionality, working closely with various departments, including finance, clinical operations, and reporting teams.
This individual plays a critical role in collaborating with hospital and corporate counterparts to define and develop the structure and solutions for MEDITECH Laboratory Information System (LIS) applications within the HSA environment. They contribute to both initial system design and ongoing maintenance, ensuring solutions meet future operational needs. Key responsibilities include mapping process flows, analyzing business requirements, and implementing comprehensive solutions that align with operational, financial, and regulatory standards.
** This is a fully remote position, with minimal travel required for production deployment events, periodic training sessions, and meetings. **
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and system enhancements for MEDITECH Laboratory applications, including LAB, MIC, and BBK.
- Assist with configuration, implementation, and optimization of the organizational structure for future-state acquisitions.
- Configure and maintain MEDITECH dictionaries and tables to support administrative, financial, and clinical workflows.
- Mentor and perform knowledge transfer with less experienced analysts to build team capacity and technical strength.
- Utilize an issue-tracking system to monitor incoming requests and ensure timely, effective resolution in accordance with service level expectations.
- Ensure data integrity, system security, and compliance with financial regulations, HIPAA, and other applicable healthcare standards.
- Collaborate with hospital-based HSA resources to support efficient and coordinated laboratory operations across multiple facilities.
- Coordinate with vendors on system updates, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and testing of new functionalities to facilitate seamless adoption of enhancements.
- Develop and maintain user training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation to support optimized system utilization.
- Develop and maintain a support model with the analyst team to provide 24x7x365 rotating coverage across the organization.
- Lead interface planning, testing, and validation to support data exchange between the LIS, EHR, and third-party systems.
- Participate in regulatory audit preparation (e.g., CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission) by validating LIS configurations and documenting compliance-related workflows.
- Engage with laboratory directors and pathologists to evaluate workflow efficiencies and identify opportunities for system and automation improvements.
- Oversee change management activities for laboratory-related application updates, ensuring communication, testing, and stakeholder readiness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Biology, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field (Preferred)
- 5+ years of experience supporting MEDITECH LIS applications in a healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of MEDITECH Expanse platform
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and develop actionable solutions to support decision-making.
- Extensive knowledge of MEDITECH LIS, including common dictionaries, monitoring utilities, user access, customer-defined screens, and parameters.
- Independent thinker who effectively solves problems and develops solutions while working collaboratively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and end-users.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and healthcare facilities simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work quality.
- Advanced analytical skills with a focus on problem-solving, process improvement, and workflow optimization.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate technical solutions effectively.
- Proven ability to lead investigations into issues requiring comprehensive solutions and tracking those solutions to completion.
