Dental Assistant
Position Summary
The Dental Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered dental care within a community health center environment. This position assists dentists and dental hygienists in providing comprehensive oral health services, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for patients of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities

Patient Support & Care

Welcome, prepare, and seat patients, ensuring comfort and addressing concerns.

Provide clear instructions on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care.

Support outreach and education initiatives that promote community oral health awareness.

Clinical Assistance
-
Assist dentists and hygienists during examinations and procedures, including instrument handling, suctioning, and material preparation.

Take, develop, and mount dental radiographs in compliance with state regulations.

Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Infection Control & Safety
-
Sterilize and maintain dental instruments, equipment, and treatment rooms.

Adhere strictly to OSHA, CDC, and community health center infection control standards.

Monitor and document sterilization logs and safety compliance checks.

Administrative & Operational Support
-
Assist with appointment scheduling, chart updates, and patient flow coordination.

Verify insurance eligibility and assist patients with understanding benefits, if required.

Maintain dental supply inventory, place orders, and ensure proper storage.

Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program preferred.

State-specific certification and licensure for dental radiography required.

CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including underserved and vulnerable communities.

Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) strongly preferred.
