Job Description

Overview

A 24-bed Cardiac Medical-Surgical unit in the Panama City region is seeking an experienced Director of Cardiac Care – Med Surg to lead operational excellence, team development, patient experience, and clinical quality. This unit maintains an average daily census of 18 patients and requires a forward-thinking leader skilled in strategic planning, performance improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Director oversees all departmental operations including staffing, performance management, education, regulatory compliance, throughput, resource utilization, and quality initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Cardiac Med Surg unit, aligning goals with organizational objectives.

  • Lead performance improvement initiatives to ensure safe, high-quality, cost-effective patient care.

  • Oversee patient throughput and coordinate seamless transitions across the care continuum.

  • Partner with physicians, APPs, and multidisciplinary teams to support clinical excellence.

  • Evaluate new technologies, equipment, and service opportunities to enhance cardiac care.

  • Coordinate case conferences for complex or high-risk patients.

  • Support research and evidence-based practice initiatives in compliance with IRB standards.

  • Develop short- and long-term plans, budgets, and staffing models.

  • Recruit, hire, retain, and develop qualified staff to meet departmental needs.

  • Provide coaching and performance management for supervisors and frontline team members.

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, quality, and patient safety standards.

  • Foster a team-focused culture grounded in communication, engagement, and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years recent acute-care RN leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Active RN or APRN license.

  • BLS (or BLS Instructor) within 30 days of hire.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing Cardiac Med Surg or similar medical-surgical units.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
