POSITION SUMMARY:
Twenty-four hour administrative responsibility for the department. Plans, organizes and directs care provided by the department's staff. Formulates, monitors and reports the departments budgetary needs and outcomes. Allocates resources and delegates responsibilities to assure quality patient care, while maintaining legal, ethical and community standards for mental healthcare services. Responsible for recruitment, education and development of staff. Ability to manage and direct staff in the department.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT:
· Outstanding ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to develop written policies and procedures, memoranda and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors. Must be effective in communicating with patients, families, professional staff and the community
· Exceptional knowledge of psychiatry and hospital systems, individual and group
behaviors, healthcare quality improvement and budget/financial/data base skills
· Ability to see the "whole" of the organization and how the service/area of responsibility
fits into the broader perspective. Must have an attitude of collaboration with peers,
patients, staff, physicians network/system participants
· Ability to build and carry out change toward the achievement of a "shared vision", challenge current paradigms and facilitate systems thinking
· Willingness to devote time and effort in proactive and crisis management in an erratic work environment
· Willingness to deal with diverse management and clinical responsibilities
· Confers and cooperates with Medical Director, CNO, Medical Staff, Families and other hospital department to provide adequately for patients' care
· Evaluates daily care requirements of all patients by completing comprehensive rounds during respective shift and by regular consultation with all shifts. Responsible for monitoring patient needs and ascertains that requests are addressed promptly
· Designates team leaders and assigns staff to patient care in accordance with their needs and/or complexities. Records acuity levels per policy to assist with daily staffing needs
· Works in collaboration with Case Management Director focusing on LOS and Discharge Planning
· Interacts with Clinical Nurses, Quality Management, Risk Management and Education, supporting efforts toward staff development
· Participates in Performance Improvement activities as requested by CNO/Administrative Team

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Masters Degree in Nursing or related field preferred
- Three to Five years of experience in a managerial role
- Thorough knowledge of Mental Health Law
- Demonstrated Leadership skills with goal oriented processing skills
