Responsibilities:


Responsible for assisting in coordinating the surgical procedure for patients. Responsible for the care of patients, as a RN, for the before and after surgery care of patients. Prepare charts, conduct pre-op calls, post-op calls, obtain medication regimen of patients. Provide report to Pre-op nurses upcoming patients. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of and compliance with safety policies and procedures, recognizes safety hazards, and initiate appropriate corrective and/or preventative measures.

Duties of the position:


1. Ability to have a flexible schedule and work a variety of hours
2. Effectively communicate with patients and medical personnel
3. Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the collected data based on the patients immediate condition or needs; reprioritizes care appropriately.
4. Contact patients to review health history and medication regimen of upcoming patients and document it in the EMR system.
5. Collaborate with surgeons offices to obtain labs, consents, clearances, and other pre-operative documentation.
6. Prepare patient charts, provide patients arrival times.
7. Help create patient discharge education
8. Assist in Pre-op/PACU when necessary with Registered Nurses and patient care.
9. Great phone skills, communication skills and organization skills are required.
10. Understanding of LPN scope of practice, ability to communicate to RNs
11. Develops a nurse care plan individualized for the patient that is age specific and collaborative with the interdisciplinary health teams.
12. Under the supervision on Registered Nurses, performs therapeutic nursing interventions established in the plan of care for the patient and accompanying family members, friends, and significant others.
13. Administer treatments and medications (within the LPN scope of practice) as ordered by the physicians or licensed independent practitioners and according to establish protocols (policies and procedures).
14. Document patient assessment and findings, physical/biopsychosocial responses to nursing interventions and progress toward goal completion and problem solving.
15. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality, complying with HIPPA privacy and security rules.
16. Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that reflects cultural and sensitivity.
17. Preserves patients dignity, autonomy, privacy, and rights/responsibilities.
18. Communicates hand-off information when passing patient from pre-op to operating room staff.
19. Complies with facility infection control policies and procedures.
20. Checks crash cart, defibrillator, locks, waived testing daily.
21. Maintains biohazards and complies with OSHA protocol.
22. Contact patients and conduct a pre-operative screening. Understand guidelines to determine if a patient is an acceptable candidate for surgery.
23. Obtain proper clearances, labs and paperwork for patients scheduled for surgery.
24. Knowledge of computer systems to help create and maintain patient education materials.
25. Ability to teach patients pre-operative and post-operative care and instructions.
26. Check in patients to facility. Review consents, properly help the patient prepare for surgery.
27. Understanding and administration of postop orders.
28. Providing medication for pain and nausea control as well as other medications per doctors orders.
29. Proper documentation of patient care.
30. Ensure patient has appropriate caregiver to take patient home and care for him/her.
31. Educating caregiver of patient care once leaving the facility.
32. Maintaining recovery area maintenance cleaning, stocking of medical supplies as well as nutritional supplies, laundry, medications.
33. Understanding of cost maintenance and awareness.
34. Maintaining narcotic drug count.
35. Emergency management of patient as needed.
36. Understand and comply with all OSHA and biohazard standards.

Physical Requirements:
Good physical condition to frequently walk, bend, stoop and squat; occasionally sit, occasionally lift, carry, push, pull maximum over 50lbs with assistance. Must be able to see, hear, speak, and use both hands to easily communicate.

Occupational Exposure:
Job involves tasks or procedures that have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials during the performance of duties.

Qualifications:
High school diploma
Degree in Nursing OR Active state license for License Practical Nurse in the state of Florida
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Sterile Technique and principles of aseptic technique
Complete necessary continuing education units to maintain an active license
Ability to pass a background check
