Material Bank is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Internal Engineering team. This is a hands-on role is ideal for a seasoned technologist with deep expertise in architectural design, modern infrastructure, and scalable internal systems. You'll be a core contributor in designing, building, and optimizing high-impact business platforms such as billing engines, lead generation tools, and enterprise integrations.
As part of a small, agile team that works in parallel to our main engineering group, this role offers autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to rapidly deliver solutions that drive cross-functional efficiency at scale.
What You'll Do
- Architect and deliver robust internal applications using Python, Golang, and JavaScript across microservices-oriented systems.
- Design scalable software using expert-level architectural design patterns to ensure reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Own the infrastructure lifecycle using Terraform, and a wide array of AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, API Gatways, etc.), with a focus on automation and observability.
- Assist in the implementation of AWS-native CI/CD pipelines for consistent, secure deployment processes.
- Build and optimize PostgreSQL databases with advanced schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Leverage FastAPI and Airflow to construct APIs and orchestrate workflows across distributed systems.
- Implement secure authentication and authorization workflows using Keycloak and SSO integrations with Azure.
- Contribute to architecture reviews, design sessions, and code reviews while mentoring mid-level and senior engineers.
- Operate in a high-trust, startup-style environment with end-to-end ownership of critical projects.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and convert them into scalable, maintainable engineering solutions.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years at Staff level or equivalent.
- Expert-level proficiency in:
- Architectural Design Patterns
- Python
- AWS Services (compute, storage, networking, serverless, etc.)
- PostgreSQL
- Terraform
- Startup/greenfield experience
- Proficient in:
- Golang
- JavaScript
- FastAPI
- Airflow
- Keycloak
- SSO Azure Integrations
- AWS CI/CD Pipelines
- Proven experience leading technical projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring engineers.
