Background

At the core of this environment is the Medical Research Center (MRC), which provides institutional research governance, promotes adherence to ethical standards, and supports skill development across all HMC facilities. Through its dedicated research units, biostatistical support structures, clinical-trial frameworks, and internal funding programs, the MRC empowers investigators, physicians, nurses, scientists, and allied health professionals to conduct rigorous, patient-centered research that addresses national and global health priorities.
Job Summary
The Director provides strategic, scientific, and operational leadership for a fully integrated cancer research enterprise encompassing basic discovery, translational science, early-phase drug development, clinical trials, population sciences, prevention research, and data-driven oncology. This role defines long-term vision, builds world-class programs aligned with Qatar’s national health strategy, secures diversified funding, and ensures research excellence, safety, and compliance. The Director also serves as a scientific ambassador for HMC and leads recruitment, mentorship, and the development of a high-performance research culture.
Key responsibilities:-
- Develop and implement a 5–10-year cancer research strategy with measurable KPIs
- Develop GMP/GTP-compliant cell-therapy production, bioinformatics, AI, biostatistics, and data platforms.
- Implement cybersecurity, data governance, and FAIR data standards; support secure data-sharing models
- Obtain/maintain relevant accreditations (e.g., FACT).
- Establish incident-reporting systems, CAPA frameworks, and comprehensive research-audit programs
- Formalize collaborations with global cancer centers; develop joint programs, fellowships, and multicenter clinical trials.
- Advance commercialization pathways, including technology transfer, IP strategy, and co-development with industry
- Establish graduate programs, postdoctoral tracks, and clinician-scientist pathways.
- Lead seminars, workshops, and training programs in translational research, clinical trials, and data science
- Strengthen cancer screening, risk stratification, hereditary cancer services, and survivorship programs.
- Evaluate outcomes across Qatar’s diverse population
- Position Qatar as a regional hub for oncology research; support regional registries, guidelines, and capacity-building efforts
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership in cancer research.
- Record of developing programs, securing competitive funding, and producing high-impact outputs.
- Experience overseeing clinical research and/or translational science pipelines.
- Demonstrated capacity to build teams and mentor diverse talent.
- Experience supervising graduate students and fostering a rigorous academic environment.
- Participation in research governance committees (IRB, MRC, grant review panels
Education
- Clinical fellowship (for MDs) or postdoctoral training (for PhDs) with strong translational credentials.
- Training in clinical research, biostatistics, data science, or health leadership (e.g., MPH, MSc Clinical Trials, MBA).
