Job Summary
The Echocardiography Technologist is responsible for performing all aspects of echocardiographic studies, including fetal echocardiography, using ultrasonic equipment. This role includes triaging examinations, preparing and orienting patients, conducting studies, and providing preliminary interpretations for attending physicians. The technologist ensures equipment maintenance, accurate documentation, and adherence to hospital and departmental standards while delivering high-quality patient care.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform echocardiographic studies, including fetal echocardiograms, in accordance with physician orders and clinical protocols.
- Conduct patient triage, orientation, and preparation prior to examinations.
- Acquire diagnostic images, analyze findings, and provide preliminary interpretations to attending physicians.
- Document all procedures and findings according to hospital and departmental standards.
- Maintain and calibrate ultrasound/echo equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to support patient care.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, infection control, HIPAA, and professional standards.
- Deliver compassionate care to patients while explaining procedures and addressing concerns.
Education
- Completion of an accredited Echocardiography or Diagnostic Medical Sonography program (specialization in cardiac/echo).
Certifications / Licensure
- Required:
- ARDMS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association
- Preferred:
- Fetal Echocardiography (FE) certification with ARDMS
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of echocardiography experience
- Fetal echocardiography experience required
