Job Description

Job DescriptionWe are partnering with a well-respected municipality in need of an experienced Legal Assistant to join their legal department on a temporary basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to support attorneys in high-impact municipal matters, including litigation, contracts, and legal research. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal support work and be ready to start immediately.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct administrative and litigation support to City Attorneys, including trial preparation and document drafting.
Conduct legal research using tools like Westlaw and public records to gather information relevant to City legal matters.
Assist in preparing and reviewing legal documents such as pleadings, contracts, resolutions, and discovery responses.
Organize legal files, exhibits, and trial materials; monitor litigation activity and maintain court response tracking.
Liaise with internal departments, outside counsel, and government agencies to obtain necessary information and ensure compliance.
Review and verify outside counsel invoices and retention agreements.
Assist in training new legal support staff and help develop departmental policies.

Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably in a government or municipal legal department.
Strong knowledge of legal document preparation, legal research, and court procedures.
Proficiency in legal software tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and Westlaw.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and maintain strict confidentiality.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
