Job Description
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Project Engineer specializing in Thermal Management for Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In this role, you will be involved in the full lifecycle of BESS projects—from design through execution—collaborating with cross-functional teams across the Energy Resources organization. You will play a key role in ensuring thermal systems are efficient, safe, and aligned with project goals, driving continuous improvement in technology integration and system performance.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate thermal system designs for large-scale energy storage projects
  • Prepare technical scopes of work for studies or designs focused on thermal management systems
  • Support BESS projects from conceptual design through execution, including commissioning and on-site support
  • Influence project teams with technical guidance, particularly in thermal systems engineering
  • Maintain awareness of progress and challenges within assigned projects
  • Collaborate with suppliers for successful integration of major thermal components
  • Work with cross-disciplinary teams on system integration, control logic, and process optimization
  • Identify and drive value engineering opportunities and emerging technology evaluations
  • Ensure adherence to relevant safety codes and technical standards
  • Perform other duties as required to support project success


Required Skills:

  • Subject matter expertise in thermal management for energy storage systems
  • Experience in design and engineering of thermal systems: VRF, Hydronic, air-cooled HVAC
  • Deep understanding of energy storage thermal dissipation and heat generation
  • Familiarity with BESS safety standards: UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC
  • Proficiency in managing external engineers and contractors
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and technical analysis capabilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present technical concepts clearly


Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in various lithium-ion battery chemistries
  • Knowledge of power conversion units and DC/DC converters
  • Experience working with large-scale, utility-grade battery storage systems
  • Background in renewable energy systems and hybrid power solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and refine engineering tools and processes

Education:Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field (ABET-accredited)5+ years of relevant engineering experience
